The New Year – 2013 – brings several new laws into effect in Illinois. Here are some of the new laws, but not an exhaustive list. If you wish to know more, please contact our office (618-462-8405).
Caylee’s Law: The new law increases penalties for a parent, guardian, or caretaker who fails to report the death or disappearance of a child under 13 or younger within 24 hours, or 1 hour if the child is under the age of 2.
Accidents: The new law allows persons involved to move their vehicles to the nearest off-ramp, access road, or other safe location following an accident, if such accident is property damage only (This does not apply where a personal injury occurs).
Cell Phone Ban: This new law bans cell phone use when driving in construction or maintenance zones on all projects even where there is no reduced speed limit.
Gift Certificate: This new law expands the definition of “gift certificate” to include credit slip issued by a store to a customer who returns goods, if the credit slip enables the customer to receive other goods of similar value in exchange for the returned goods.
Underage Drinking Parent Penalties: This new law makes it a “crime” to allow underage drinking on property under the parents’ or guardians’ control, such as field or barn.
